Comment Policy

We greatly appreciate your comments on Arcade, which consistently help us build a lively intellectual community. The following are guidelines to help you comment more effectively, and reflect our priorities for making the dialogue on the site as effective as possible.

  • Relevance: Comments should be relevant to the original post. We appreciate surprising and unusual connections, but ask commenters to make their relevance to the original post clear.
  • Length: We do not place strict word limits on our comments, but we recommend an upper limit of around 500 words.
  • Linking: Because Arcade encourages exchange and dialogue, we recommend that links to outside web sites be contextualized in a way that allows readers to understand the gist of the link without going to the external site. This is especially true if the commenter is linking to his or her own work, as the commenter would be able to effectively situate the link's relevance in the context of the current conversation.
  • Politeness: We highly encourage lively debate, but discourage personal attack, unnecessary profanity, or any other behavior that incites animosity.

The Editors try to encourage openness as much as possible, but do reserve the right to delete comments that do not adhere to the guidelines above. If you have questions about this page, please contact us through this Feedback page.
