- Biography
Brian Reed is an associate professor of English and an adjunct associate professor of Slavic at the University of Washington, Seattle. A specialist in 20th century poetry and poetics, he is currently at work on a book about the intersections between post-World War II American verse and visual art. His research interests also include international modernism; the avant-garde; postmodernism; experimental fiction; electronic literature; New York of the 1950s; and art music from John Cage onwards. He is the author of the monograph Hart Crane: After His Lights (2006) and the co-editor of a volume of essays titled Situating El Lissitzky: Vitebsk, Berlin, Moscow (2003). He has also published articles on such American writers as John Ashbery, Susan Howe, Ezra Pound, Carl Sandburg, and Gertrude Stein. His most recent essay, on the poetics of the Darkroom Collective, appeared in the "Post-Soul" special issue of the African American Review.
