පොහොසද්දන ඇති තුනුරුවන බැති          පෙමා

මුළුවද්දන සුරපුර පිරි සිරින්                    හැමා

ජයවද්දන කැරුමෙන් සුසැදු තම              නමා

ජයවද්දන පුරවර දනු මිතුරු                    තුමා

Great people live (here) with great respect for the Triple Gem

The city, resplendent with all grandeurs, surpasses the Devas’ city

By its growing victories has established its name

Honored Friend, behold and familiarize yourself with the city of Jayawaddana

මනකල් ඉසුරු කෝවිලැ ලගිනේ               ලකළ

Rows of flags flutter amidst fumes of camphor and black aloe-wood

The sounds of drums, conchs, and bells reverberate and spread everywhere

Making everyone glad, beautiful maidens chant Tamil eulogistic hymns

බල මහ මුහුද එම සඳ උතුරෙන්              පෙනන

As if intending to embrace the heavenly lady that is the sky

The vast waves impelled by the strong winds raise themselves skyward

The shorelines are dazzling, strewn with pearls, conch shells and beads

Observe the great ocean which appears in the north

මනහර නා මණෙවියනිඳ ළවැලි                 පිට

සැනහෙව කැලණි ගඟ බඩ මඳ කලක්        සිට

Na maidens who steal onlookers’ hearts are seated on the fresh sands of the river banks

(they) take bejeweled veenas and delicately pluck the strings with the tips of their fingernails

Hearken to (their) sweetly sung praises of Lord Buddha

Refresh yourself by lingering awhile on the banks of the Kelani River

With gem-studded veenas stringing their chords                   divine

අහසින් අවුත් මිණිඅක් නයිඳු                            යැදුමට

දහමුත් දෙසූ තැන කළ සැට රියන්                     කොට

මහ දා ගැප් හිමින් වඳු සොළොස තැන්               සිට

Arriving through air on invitation by the Naga King Mini Akkhika

Lord Buddha seated on a gem-studded throne in the midst of the arhats

Preached the Dhamma, and at that place, sixty cubits high was built

A great dageba, which you must worship from sixteen locations
